Poseidon (2011 South Korean Television Series)
Poseidon is a South Korean television drama series that aired on KBS2 from September 19, 2011, to November 8, 2011. The series focuses on the operations of a specialized maritime police investigation unit tasked with dismantling a criminal syndicate.
Plot Summary
The narrative follows Kwon Jung-Ryool (Lee Sung-Jae), a leader within the Maritime Police Intelligence Investigation Team, who forms a secret unit to capture the head of a criminal organization known as Heugsahoe. Following a failed undercover operation that resulted in the deaths of his wife and other colleagues, the team is disbanded. Three years later, in 2011, Jung-Ryool establishes a new special investigation team, disguised as the #9 investigation team, to pursue the same syndicate. He is joined by Kim Sun-Woo (Choi Si-Won), a maritime police officer who becomes involved in the mission after a series of events leads him to cross paths with the syndicate's middleman, known as Popeye.
Production History
The production of Poseidon faced significant delays and changes. Initial filming began in late 2010 with a different cast, including Eric, Kim Kang-Woo, and U-Know Yunho. However, production was halted after only 20% of the first episode was completed due to the bombardment of Yeonpyeong Island in November 2010 and unfavorable weather conditions. Following these events, several original cast members resigned due to scheduling conflicts. In June 2011, Annex Telecom announced that KBS2 would broadcast the series, and by August 2011, Choi Si-Won and Lee Si-Young were confirmed as the new leads.
