Parallel Life (2010 Film)
Parallel Life (Korean: 평행이론; RR: Pyeonghaeng Iron) is a 2010 South Korean suspense-thriller film directed by Kwon Ho-Young. The film explores the concept of the "parallel life theory," an urban legend suggesting that individuals can lead lives that mirror those of people from previous generations in uncanny detail.
Plot
Kim Seok-Hyeon (Ji Jin-Hee) is a successful and rational criminal court judge who becomes the youngest person appointed to his position in South Korea at age 36. His life is seemingly perfect until his wife, Bae Yun-Kyeong (Yun Se-Ah), is murdered. A suspect, Jang Soo-Young (Ha Jung-Woo), is quickly apprehended, having held a grudge against the judge for a previous ruling.
Following the tragedy, a reporter alerts Kim to the existence of the "parallel life theory." The investigation reveals that Kim's life is following the exact trajectory of a judge named Han Sang-Jun, who lived 30 years prior. Like Kim, Han was the youngest judge of his time, shared a similar academic background, and suffered the murder of his wife and daughter. According to the theory, the cycle dictates that the murderer will escape prison in 16 days to kill the judge's daughter.
Production
The film was produced by Lee Sang-Yong and distributed by CJ Entertainment. Principal photography for the project commenced in late October 2008. The screenplay was written by Han Jeung-Ae and Lee Young-Jong, with cinematography by Lee Jong-Yeol.
