Once Upon a Small Town

Once Upon a Small Town (Korean: 어쩌다 전원일기; RR: Eojjeoda Jeonwonilgi) is a South Korean television drama series that premiered on September 5, 2022. The series consists of 12 episodes and was released via KakaoTV. It is based on the web novel Eojjeodaga Jeonwonilgi by Park Ha-Min, which was published on May 1, 2019, through the platform Ridibooks.

Plot

The story follows Han Ji-Yul (played by Choo Young-Woo), a veterinarian working in Seoul who receives an urgent, vague phone call from his grandfather. Upon arriving at his grandfather's home in the rural Huidong Village, he discovers that his grandfather has left on a tour of Europe, leaving him in charge of the local animal clinic for six months. During his stay, Ji-Yul interacts with the local community, including Police Officer Ahn Ja-Young (played by Joy). Ja-Young is a dedicated officer who grew up in Huidong Village and is known for her willingness to assist residents with their daily needs. As they work together, the two develop a romantic relationship.

Production

The series was directed by Kwon Seok-Jang, with the screenplay written by Baek Eun-Kyeong. During the casting process, actors Jang Keun-Suk and Sooyoung were initially offered the lead roles but declined the offers. The final cast features Choo Young-Woo as Han Ji-Yul, Joy as Ahn Ja-Young, and Baek Sung-Chul as Lee Sang-Hyeon.
