Ojisama to Neko

Ojisama to Neko (Japanese: おじさまと猫), also known by its literal English title A Man and His Cat, is a Japanese television drama series that aired in 2021. The series is an adaptation of the manga of the same name written and illustrated by Umi Sakurai, which began serialization in 2017 in Monthly Shonen Gangan.

Plot

The story follows Fukumaru, an adult cat living in a pet shop who has long been overlooked by potential owners. Having resigned himself to the fact that he may never be adopted, his life changes when he meets Fuyuki Kanda. Kanda, a man still mourning the loss of his wife, visits the shop and feels an immediate connection with the cat. The series explores their growing bond and the healing process for both the man and his new companion.

Production and Broadcast

The series was directed by Keijiro Tsubakimoto and Masahiro Soejima, with a screenplay by Mitsuhiko Fujiki and Date San. It consisted of 12 episodes. The drama was broadcast on TV Tokyo and distributed via the streaming platform Paravi. The TV Tokyo broadcast ran from January 6 to March 24, 2021, occupying the Wednesday 24:58–25:28 time slot.

Cast

The main cast includes Masao Kusakari as Fuyuki Kanda and Ryunosuke Kamiki, who provides the voice for the cat, Fukumaru.
