Production and Context

The film is the first entry in Jeon Kyu-Hwan's thematic "Town" trilogy, which examines the lives of individuals experiencing isolation within a large urban environment. Despite being the first film produced in the series, it was the final installment to be released theatrically in South Korea. The trilogy also includes Animal Town (2011) and Dance Town (2011).

Plot

The narrative centers on the experiences of various individuals living in Seoul. The story follows Sara, a pianist visiting the city as an exchange professor who perceives Seoul through the lens of a tourist, largely unaware of the underlying social struggles. In contrast, the film depicts the lives of residents facing systemic challenges, including the exploitation of illegal workers and corruption within the adult entertainment industry. Key characters include Il-Hwan, a gang member who collects protection money; Deok-Sang, who works as a tourist bus driver; and Ji-Won, a street vendor. Their lives intersect against the backdrop of the city's social disparities.
