Motel California
Motel California is a South Korean television drama series that premiered on January 10, 2025, and concluded on February 15, 2025. The series aired on MBC in the Friday and Saturday 21:50 time slot. It is based on the novel Home, Bitter Home by Sim Yoon-Seo, which was published by Gaha on November 19, 2019.
Plot Synopsis
The story follows Ji Gang-Hee (Lee Se-Young), who grew up in a rural village at a motel operated by her father. Due to her family background, she faced social stigma and gossip from local residents, leaving her with emotional wounds. At the age of 20, she left her hometown for Seoul. Twelve years later, she has established a successful career as an interior designer but decides to return to her hometown, where she reunites with her childhood friend and first love, Chun Yeon-Soo (Na In-Woo).
Chun Yeon-Soo works as a local veterinarian. To avoid pressure from farmers who frequently attempt to introduce him to their daughters, he allows a rumor to persist that he is engaged to a fellow veterinarian. His life changes when Ji Gang-Hee returns to the village after more than a decade.
Production
The series was directed by Jang Joon-Ho and Kim Hyung-Min, with a screenplay by Lee Seo-Yoon. It consists of 12 episodes. The production took over the MBC Friday and Saturday time slot previously occupied by When The Phone Rings and was succeeded by Undercover High School.
