Moonshine (2021 South Korean Television Series)

Moonshine, also known by its literal title When Flowers Bloom, I Think of the Moon, is a South Korean historical television series that aired on KBS2. The drama is set during the late Joseon period, a time characterized by the enforcement of a strict alcohol prohibition.

Plot Synopsis

The narrative follows Nam Young (Yoo Seung-Ho), an officer for the Saheonbu (the Office of the Inspector-General), who travels to Hanyang to pursue a successful career. Known for his adherence to principles and his appearance, his life takes an unexpected turn when he encounters Kang Ro-Seo (Hyeri). Kang Ro-Seo, the daughter of a struggling noble family, serves as the primary breadwinner. To settle her family's debts, she begins brewing alcohol in defiance of the era's strict prohibition laws.

Production

The series was directed by Hwang In-Hyuk and written by Kim Joo-Hee. Filming commenced in early May 2021, following an initial script reading session. The show occupied the Monday and Tuesday 21:30 time slot on KBS2, succeeding The King's Affection. The final two episodes, originally scheduled for mid-February 2022, were delayed by one week to accommodate the broadcast of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.
