Moon So-Ri: South Korean Actress and Filmmaker

Moon So-Ri (born July 2, 1974) is a prominent South Korean actress, director, and producer. She gained widespread critical acclaim and international recognition for her performances in landmark South Korean films such as Peppermint Candy (2000) and Oasis (2002), both directed by Lee Chang-dong.

Early Life and Career Beginnings

Born in Busan, South Korea, Moon majored in Education at Sungkyunkwan University. She began her acting career on stage in 1996 before transitioning to film. Prior to her major cinematic breakthrough, she appeared in a short film before being cast by director Lee Chang-dong as the female lead in the feature film Peppermint Candy.

Film Career and Critical Acclaim

Moon achieved major prominence with her searing performance in Lee Chang-dong's Oasis (2002), for which she earned international accolades, including the Best New Actress award at the 59th Venice International Film Festival. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with numerous notable directors and starred in diverse cinematic works, including A Good Lawyer's Wife (2003), Forever the Moment (2008), The Handmaiden (2016), and Three Sisters (2021), for which she also served as a producer and won Best Actress at the 42nd Blue Dragon Film Awards.

Directing and Television Work

In addition to her extensive acting filmography, Moon expanded her creative pursuits into directing and producing. She directed the 2017 film The Running Actress.
