Monsters (2018 South Korean Film)
Monsters (Korean: 괴물들; RR: Gwoemooldeul) is a 2018 South Korean drama film directed and written by Kim Baek-Joon. The film examines the dynamics of power and systemic violence within a high school environment.
Plot
The narrative centers on the shifting power structure of a high school after the student who previously held the top position is hospitalized following the consumption of pesticide from a drink container. Yang-Hoon (played by Lee Yi-Kyung) assumes the dominant role in the school hierarchy and begins to harass Jae-Young (Lee Won-Geun). The conflict escalates when Yang-Hoon, who harbors an interest in a student named Bo-Young (Park Gyu-Young), coerces Jae-Young into stalking her.
Production
The film was directed by Kim Baek-Joon, who also wrote the screenplay. Principal photography for the project commenced on October 13, 2016, and concluded on November 14, 2016. The film was distributed by Little Big Pictures and received a theatrical release in South Korea on March 8, 2018.
