Mirai (未来, Future) is a Japanese film scheduled for release on May 8, 2026. Directed by Takahisa Zeze and distributed by Tokyo Theatres, the 130-minute feature is adapted from the 2018 novel of the same name written by Kanae Minato.

The film is based on the novel Mirai by Kanae Minato, which was originally published on May 19, 2018, by Futabasha. The screenplay was written by Ryota Kato, with production managed by Yusaku Emoto, Sakura Hashimoto, and Shinichirou Toujima. Kenta Tawara serves as the cinematographer.
Plot Synopsis
The story follows Maiko Shinomiya, who overcame a complicated family environment to become a teacher in fulfillment of her grandmother's expectations. One of her students, Akiko Saeki, receives a mysterious letter purportedly sent from her future self twenty years later. Akiko faces a harsh domestic reality marked by the recent death of her father, an isolated mother, and severe bullying and violence from her mother's boyfriend. To cope, she writes replies to herself from the future, but eventually reaches a breaking point where she contemplates desperate measures alongside her friend Arisa, prompting Maiko to intervene.
