Midnight Journal (2018 TV Movie)
Midnight Journal (Japanese: ミッドナイト・ジャーナル) is a 2018 Japanese television movie directed by Kiyoshi Sasabe. The film is based on the 2016 novel of the same name by Masato Honjo, published by Kodansha. It premiered on TV Tokyo on March 30, 2018.
Plot
The story follows Gotaro Sekiguchi (Yutaka Takenouchi) and Yuri Fujise (Aya Ueto), two newspaper reporters whose careers are derailed after they publish an erroneous report regarding a serial kidnapping and murder case. In the aftermath, Sekiguchi is demoted to a branch office, while Fujise is placed on probation.
Seven years later, Sekiguchi is working at the newspaper's Saitama branch, where he mentors a rookie reporter, Shota Okada (Kanichiro). Despite the passage of time, Sekiguchi remains haunted by the unsolved case from his past. When two new kidnappings involving young girls occur, Sekiguchi suspects a connection to the earlier crimes. He and Fujise reunite to investigate the truth behind the events.
