Manhole (2017 South Korean TV Series)

Manhole, also known by its literal title Manhole: Wonderland's Pil (Korean: 맨홀-이상한 나라의 필), is a South Korean television series that aired on KBS2 from August 9 to September 28, 2017. The drama was directed by Park Man-young and Yoo Young-eun, with a screenplay written by Lee Jae-gon.

Plot

The story follows Bong-pil, played by Kim Jae-joong, a man who has spent three years preparing for the civil service examination without much motivation. His life takes a turn when he learns that his longtime friend, Soo-jin (Uee), whom he has secretly loved for 28 years, is about to get married. In a desperate attempt to stop the wedding, Bong-pil falls into a manhole that serves as a portal for time travel, allowing him to navigate between the past and the present.

Production

The series marked the first acting role for Kim Jae-joong following his discharge from mandatory military service on December 30, 2016. The initial script reading for the production occurred on June 29, 2017, at the KBS Annex Broadcasting Station in Yeouido, South Korea. The drama occupied the Wednesday and Thursday 22:00 time slot on KBS2, succeeding Queen for Seven Days and preceding Mad Dog.
