Mai Ratima (2013 Film)
Mai Ratima is a 2013 South Korean drama film written and directed by actor Yoo Ji-Tae. The film serves as his feature-length directorial debut. It explores themes of social alienation and the struggles of marginalized individuals within contemporary South Korean society.

Plot
The story follows Soo-Young (Bae Soo-Bin), a man in his early 30s living a precarious existence. His path crosses with Mai Ratima (Park Ji-Soo), a Thai woman in her early 20s who has moved to South Korea through an arranged marriage. As they navigate their respective hardships, their lives become further complicated by the involvement of Young-Jin (So Yu-Jin), a woman working in a host bar.
Production
The film was produced by Hong Yeon-Jeong. Principal photography commenced on January 26, 2012, and concluded on April 2, 2012. During its development phase, the project was known by the early Korean title Sonyeon, Sanseberia Ggeumeul Gguda, which translates literally to Boy, Dreams of Sansevieria.



Release and Reception
Mai Ratima held its world premiere at the 17th Busan International Film Festival on October 5, 2012. It was subsequently released in South Korean theaters on June 6, 2013. The film was screened at several international events, including the 15th Deauville Asian Film Festival and the 37th Montreal World Film Festival.

Awards
The film received critical recognition for its performances. Park Ji-Soo was awarded Best New Actress at the 34th Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2013. Additionally, the film received the Jury Prize at the 15th Deauville Asian Film Festival.
