Mad Sad Bad (2014 Film)

Mad Sad Bad (Korean: 신촌좀비만화; RR: Shinchozombimanhwa) is a 2014 South Korean 3D omnibus film. The project consists of three short films directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, Han Ji-seung, and Kim Tae-yong. The film premiered as the opening selection at the 15th Jeonju International Film Festival on May 1, 2014, and received a general theatrical release in South Korea on May 15, 2014.

Segments

Ghost

Directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, this segment is inspired by a real-life murder case. The plot follows two teenagers who are deeply immersed in an online video game and are tasked with killing the boyfriend of another online gamer.

Saw You

Directed by Han Ji-seung, this segment is set in a world where a zombie epidemic has occurred. Scientific advancements allow cured zombies to coexist with humans, though they are treated as a labor class and lose their memories of their time as zombies. The narrative focuses on Yeo-Wool (Park Ki-Woong), a factory manager who oversees cured zombies, and his interactions with a former zombie named Shi-Wa (Nam Gyu-Ri).

Picnic

Directed by Kim Tae-yong, this segment tells the story of an 8-year-old girl named Soo-Min (Kim Soo-Ahn) who lives in a seaside village with her mother and her 6-year-old autistic brother, Dong-Min. Burdened by the responsibility of caring for her brother, Soo-Min makes a difficult decision to take him on a trip to a temple.

Release and Festivals

The film was produced as a 3D project and was featured at several international film festivals, including the 47th Sitges Film Festival in 2014 and the 19th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival in 2015.
