Early Career and Breakthrough in Film
Machiko Ono made her feature film debut in Naomi Kawase's critically acclaimed 1997 film Moe no Suzaku, portraying the character Michiru. Her early work frequently aligned with independent and auteur cinema, establishing her reputation as a dramatic actress capable of nuanced performances. In 2007, she reunited with director Naomi Kawase to star in The Mourning Forest (Mogari no Mori), playing the lead role of Machiko.
