Low Life (South Korean Series)

Low Life (Korean: 파인 촌뜨기들) is a South Korean television series directed by Kang Yoon-Sung. The series is based on the webcomic Pain by Yoon Tae-Ho, which was serialized on Kakao from July 18, 2014, to August 25, 2015. The narrative is inspired by the historical discovery of a 14th-century Chinese shipwreck off the coast of Shinan, South Jeolla Province, in 1975.

Plot

The story follows Oh Gwan-Seok (Ryu Seung-Ryong), a man deeply entrenched in the criminal underworld, and his nephew, Oh Hee-Dong (Yang Se-Jong). Having been raised by his uncle, Hee-Dong assists him in various illicit activities. The plot centers on a high-stakes opportunity when Gwan-Seok receives information about a sunken ship containing valuable treasures. As they attempt to salvage the artifacts, the rumors surrounding the discovery draw a variety of opportunistic individuals to the region, complicating their efforts.

Production

The series was released on the streaming platform Disney+ in 2025, with episodes airing from July 16 to August 13. The production team, led by director Kang Yoon-Sung, adapted the original webcomic material to explore the dynamics of the characters amidst the historical backdrop of the Shinan shipwreck incident.
