Late Blossom (2011 Film)

Late Blossom (Korean: 그대를 사랑합니다; RR: Keudaereul Saranghamnida) is a 2011 South Korean romance drama film directed by Choo Chang-min. The film explores the lives and relationships of elderly individuals living in the same neighborhood. It is based on the webtoon of the same name by Kang Pool, which was first published on the Daum web portal in 2007 and later released as a three-volume comic book series.

Plot

The story follows the interconnected lives of two elderly couples. Kim Man-suk (Lee Soon-jae) is a prickly but kind-hearted man who works as a milk delivery driver. His daily routine brings him into contact with Ms. Song (Yoon So-jung), a woman who earns a living by collecting and selling scrap paper. As they spend time together, a tender bond develops between them.

Simultaneously, the film depicts the life of Jang Kun-bong (Song Jae-ho), a parking lot attendant who balances his demanding work schedule with the care of his wife, Jo Soon-yi (Kim Soo-mi), who suffers from Alzheimer's disease.

Production

The film was directed by Choo Chang-min, who also contributed to the screenplay alongside Kang Pool and Lee Man-hee. It was produced by Yoon Ki-chan, Nam Hyun, and Kim Sung-jin. The film features cinematography by Choi Yoon-man and was distributed by Next Entertainment World. It was released in South Korea on February 17, 2011, with a runtime of 118 minutes.

Reception and Awards

Late Blossom received recognition at various film festivals, including an outdoor screening at the 12th Jeonju International Film Festival in 2011 and a presentation at the 3rd Korean Film Festival in Australia in 2012. Kim Soo-mi was awarded Best Supporting Actress at the 32nd Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2011 for her performance as Jo Soon-yi.
