Kingdom: Battle of Souls (2026 Film)

Kingdom: Battle of Souls, known in Japan as Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen (Japanese: キングダム 魂の決戦) and widely referred to as Kingdom 5, is a Japanese feature film directed by Shinsuke Sato. Adapted from Yasuhisa Hara's long-running historical manga series Kingdom, the film is scheduled for release on July 17, 2026, with distribution handled by Toho.

Production and Background

The film is based on the manga series Kingdom written and illustrated by Yasuhisa Hara, which was first published in 2006 in the weekly Japanese magazine Weekly Young Jump. The screenplay is co-written by Yasuhisa Hara and Tsutomu Kuroiwa, with Shinzo Matsuhashi serving as producer. Kingdom: Battle of Souls operates with a runtime of 134 minutes.

This installment is part of a consecutive series of live-action adaptations produced in Japan. Preceding entries in the series include Kingdom (2019), Kingdom 2: Far and Away (2022), Kingdom: The Flame of Destiny (2023), and Kingdom: Return of the Great General (2024).

Plot Synopsis

The narrative centers on an immense military conflict threatening the state of Qin. Except for Qin, six rival states form a coalition army led by the military adviser Riboku. As the allied forces target Qin, Shin enters the war to fight in a decisive battle that will determine the ultimate fate of the state.
