The case concerns a man convicted of the kidnapping and murder of a young girl in Kagawa Prefecture 21 years prior. During that same period, two other kidnapping cases involving young girls remained unsolved. Chisa Matsuoka herself was a victim in one of these unsolved cases. As she returns to her hometown to investigate, she discovers evidence suggesting a potential connection between all three incidents. She faces a moral and professional dilemma while interacting with the suspect, Satoshi Hirayama, who maintains his innocence, and Yoshio Arimori, a former detective now working for a victim support center who remains convinced of Hirayama's guilt.
