Kakenai!?: Kyakuhonka Yoshimaru Keisuke no Sujigaki no Nai Seikatsu
Kakenai!?: Kyakuhonka Yoshimaru Keisuke no Sujigaki no Nai Seikatsu (often referred to as Can't Write!?) is a Japanese television drama series that aired on TV Asahi in 2021. The series follows the life of Keisuke Yoshimaru, a man who balances domestic life with the challenges of a career in screenwriting.
Plot
Keisuke Yoshimaru (Toma Ikuta) is a 37-year-old man who once aspired to be a professional screenwriter. After failing to find success in the industry, he transitioned to a career in real estate. During this time, he met Nami (Michiko Kichise), a bookstore employee and single mother, whom he eventually married. Nami later achieved significant success as a best-selling novelist.
Although Keisuke had previously won a contest that allowed him to enter the screenwriting industry, he struggled to secure consistent work. He spent much of his time managing household chores and caring for their children. His situation changed when he was unexpectedly offered the opportunity to write the screenplay for a prime-time drama series after the original writer resigned. The series depicts his efforts to complete the script while navigating his family life and professional pressures.
Production
The series was directed by Keisuke Toyoshima and Yuki Saito, with a screenplay written by Yasushi Fukuda. It aired on TV Asahi from January 16 to March 13, 2021, in the Saturday 23:30–24:00 time slot. The production marked Toma Ikuta's first starring role in a TV Asahi drama series. Following its conclusion, the time slot was occupied by Kotaro Lives By Himself starting in April 2021.
