JUNG_E (Korean: 정이) is a 2023 South Korean science fiction film written and directed by Yeon Sang-ho. The film was released globally on Netflix on January 20, 2023.

Plot

The story is set in the 22nd century, a time when climate change has rendered Earth largely uninhabitable, forcing humanity to reside in man-made shelters. A civil war erupts within these shelters. The narrative centers on Yun Jung-yi (Kim Hyun-joo), an elite mercenary and leader of the allied forces. Following a failed mission, she becomes the subject of a brain cloning experiment, which the military hopes will produce an AI soldier capable of winning the war.

Seo-hyun (Kang Soo-yeon) serves as the team leader at the laboratory responsible for developing the brain cloning and AI technology, while Sang-hun (Ryu Kyung-soo) acts as the laboratory director overseeing the project.

Production

JUNG_E is notable for being the final acting performance of actress Kang Soo-yeon. She died on May 7, 2022, following a cerebral hemorrhage, prior to the film's release.
