Island (South Korean Television Series)
Island is a South Korean fantasy-thriller television series that premiered on the streaming platform TVING. The series is based on the webcomic of the same name, written by Yoon In-Wan and illustrated by Yang Kyung-Il, which was serialized on Naver between 2016 and 2018. The drama, directed by Park Kwang-Hyun, follows a group of individuals brought together on Jeju Island to combat ancient evil forces.
Plot
The narrative centers on three primary characters: Van, Won Mi-Ho, and Johan. Van (played by Kim Nam-Gil) is a protector trained to serve as a weapon against evil, tasked with eliminating possessed victims. Despite his detached demeanor, he harbors internal guilt. Won Mi-Ho (Lee Da-Hee), an heiress to a major conglomerate, is sent to Jeju Island following a public scandal, where she begins working as a teacher and subsequently becomes entangled in supernatural events. Johan (Cha Eun-Woo) is a Catholic priest who performs exorcisms with the goal of purifying evil and protecting human life. The group also faces Goong-Tan (Sung Joon), a figure who shares a similar origin to Van but has become his adversary.

Production
Development of the series involved adapting the source material for a live-action format. Filming for the production commenced in October 2021. The role of the female lead was initially offered to actress Seo Yea-Ji, who ultimately declined the part. The series was released in two parts, with the first installment debuting on December 30, 2022, and concluding in early 2023.
