Into the Ring

Into the Ring, also known by its literal title The Ballot or the Korean title Chulsapyo, is a South Korean television series that aired on KBS2 in 2020. The series blends elements of romantic comedy with a focus on local government administration and political activism.

Plot

The narrative centers on Koo Se-ra, a woman from a modest background known for her persistent filing of civil complaints at her local ward office. Despite her financial struggles, she maintains an optimistic and determined personality. Her path crosses with Seo Kong-myung, a principled and highly competent fifth-grade public official. While Kong-myung is respected for his professional integrity, his rigid and unfriendly demeanor often alienates him from his colleagues. The series follows their collaboration as they navigate the complexities of local politics.

Production

The series was directed by Hwang Seung-ki and written by Moon Hyun-kyeong. It aired on KBS2 on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 21:30. The show premiered on July 1, 2020, and concluded its 16-episode run on August 20, 2020. It occupied the time slot previously held by Soul Mechanic and was followed by Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol.

Cast

The main cast features Nana as the protagonist Koo Se-ra and Park Sung-hoon as the public official Seo Kong-myung. Supporting roles include Yoo Da-in as Yoon Hee-soo and Han Joon-woo as Kim Min-jae.
