In Another Country (2012 Film)

In Another Country (Korean: 다른 나라에서; RR: Dareun Narayeseo) is a 2012 South Korean drama film written and directed by Hong Sang-soo. The film is notable for starring French actress Isabelle Huppert, who plays three different versions of a character named Anne.

Production

The collaboration between director Hong Sang-soo and Isabelle Huppert originated in May 2011, when Huppert visited South Korea to promote the film Copacabana and a photography exhibition. During a press conference, she expressed interest in working with several prominent Korean directors, including Hong Sang-soo. Following this, the two met to discuss a potential project, which resulted in the production of In Another Country. This film marked Hong Sang-soo's 13th feature-length directorial effort.

Release and Festivals

The film held its world premiere at the 65th Cannes Film Festival in May 2012, where it competed for the Palme d'Or. Following its debut, it was screened at numerous international film festivals throughout 2012 and 2013, including the Toronto International Film Festival, the Busan International Film Festival, and the BFI London Film Festival.
