Hoshi no Ko (2020 Film)

Hoshi no Ko (Japanese: 星の子, literally Child of the Stars) is a 2020 Japanese drama film directed by Tatsushi Omori. The film is based on the 2017 novel of the same name by author Natsuko Imamura, published by Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.

Plot

The story follows Chihiro, a girl whose parents become devout followers of a religious group after she is miraculously cured of severe eczema in infancy using water provided by a member of the organization. As Chihiro reaches her third year of middle school, she begins to navigate the complexities of her family's faith and the changing dynamics of her own life.

Production

The film was directed by Tatsushi Omori, who also contributed to the screenplay. Principal photography for the project took place between December 2019 and January 2020. The film was released in Japan on October 9, 2020, with distribution handled by Tokyo Theatres and Yoake Pictures.
