Horror Stories II (2013 South Korean Film)

Horror Stories II (Korean: 무서운 이야기 2; RR: Mooseowon Iyagi 2) is a 2013 South Korean horror anthology film. It serves as the second installment in the Horror Stories film series, following the 2012 original and preceding the 2016 third entry. The film was released in South Korea on June 5, 2013, and features four distinct segments directed by Min Kyu-dong, Jung Bum-sik, Kim Whee, and Kim Sung-ho.

Plot and Segments

The film is framed by a "Beginning Story," directed by Min Kyu-dong, in which Department Head Park (Park Sung-Woong) and a new employee, Se-Young (Lee Se-Young), explore a secret storage room at their insurance agency. Park, aware of Se-Young's supernatural ability to perceive past events, tasks her with reviewing old case files. This framing device connects three horror segments: "Cliff," "Accident," and "Escape."

Cliff

Directed by Kim Sung-Ho, "Cliff" follows two friends, Dong-Wook (Sung Joon) and Sung-Kyun (Lee Soo-Hyuk), who become trapped on a narrow mountain ledge after falling. With limited resources, their survival situation quickly deteriorates.

Accident

Directed by Kim Whee, "Accident" centers on three friends—Ji-Eun (Baek Jin-Hee), Mi-Ra (Kim Seul-Gi), and Sun-Joo (Jung In-Sun)—who embark on a mountain road trip after failing their teacher certification exams. Their journey turns into a nightmare following a car accident.

Escape

Directed by Jung Bum-Sik, "Escape" follows a trainee teacher, Ko Byeong-Shin (Ko Gyung-Pyo), who is humiliated by his students. After learning about black magic from a student named Tan-Hee (Kim Ji-Won), he finds himself trapped in a gateway to Hell. The character name "Byeong-Shin" is noted as an uncommon name in Korea, literally translating to "idiot" or "fool."

Production and Release

Filming for Horror Stories II commenced on March 6, 2013. The film was distributed by Lotte Entertainment. It was screened at the 46th Sitges Film Festival in October 2013 and held its U.S. premiere at the 13th Asian Film Festival of Dallas in 2014.
