Hong Mi-Ran: South Korean Television Screenwriter

Hong Mi-Ran is a South Korean television screenwriter who frequently collaborates with her older sister, Hong Jung-Eun. Together, the writing duo—commonly referred to as the Hong Sisters—have authored numerous successful South Korean television drama series, spanning romantic comedies, fantasy, and historical-fusion genres.

Career and Notable Works

Hong Mi-Ran began her prominent career in television screenwriting in the mid-2000s. Working alongside her sister Hong Jung-Eun, she co-authored her debut television series Sassy Girl Chun-hyang, which aired on KBS2 in 2005. Following this early success, the writing partnership produced a succession of popular series for major South Korean broadcast networks and streaming platforms.

Their notable screenwriting credits include My Girl (SBS, 2005–2006), You're Beautiful (SBS, 2009), My Girlfriend is Gumiho (KBS2, 2010), The Greatest Love (MBC, 2011), The Master's Sun (SBS, 2013), Hotel Del Luna (tvN, 2019), and the fantasy series Alchemy of Souls (tvN, 2022) alongside its follow-up Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow (tvN, 2022).

Throughout her career with her co-writer sister, Hong Mi-Ran has received industry recognition for her contributions to television drama. Notably, she was awarded Best Screenplay at the 2011 MBC Drama Awards on December 30, 2011, for her work on the romantic comedy series The Greatest Love.
