Hitchhike (Korean: 히치하이크; RR: Hichihaikeu) is a 2019 South Korean drama film written and directed by Jeong Hee-Jae. The film explores themes of family and adolescence through a coming-of-age narrative.

Plot

The story centers on 16-year-old Jung-Ae, played by Roh Jeong-Eui, who lives with her father, Young-Ho. After her father is diagnosed with terminal cancer and expresses a desire to cease treatment, Jung-Ae receives a letter from her long-estranged mother, Young-Ok. Believing her mother may be her final hope, Jung-Ae embarks on a journey to locate her.

Actress Roh Jeong-Eui — Roh Jeong-Eui portrays the protagonist, Jung-Ae.

Production and Release

The film was directed and written by Jeong Hee-Jae, with production handled by Jung Hee-Jung. It features cinematography by Jang Woo-Young. Hitchhike had its world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival in October 2017 before receiving a theatrical release in South Korea on March 14, 2019. The film has a runtime of 108 minutes and was distributed by MOVement.
