Herb (2007 Film)

Herb (Korean: 허브; RR: Heobeu) is a 2007 South Korean drama film directed by Heo In-Moo. The film explores the life of Sang-Eun, a young woman with a developmental disability, and her relationship with her mother.

Plot

Sang-Eun (Kang Hye-Jung) is a 20-year-old woman who possesses a talent for paper folding. Despite her age, she has the mental capacity of a seven-year-old child. She lives a sheltered life, often finding comfort in fairy tales and dreaming of meeting a prince. Her life changes when she encounters a traffic officer named Jong-Bum (Jung Kyung-Ho). Jong-Bum, initially mistaking Sang-Eun for a lawyer, pursues her until he discovers her disability, at which point he distances himself. Simultaneously, Sang-Eun faces personal turmoil as she learns of her mother's (Bae Jong-Ok) declining health.

Production

The film was produced by KM Culture with a production budget of approximately US$ 3 million. It was distributed by Showbox and released in South Korea on January 11, 2007. The screenplay was a collaborative effort by Heo In-Moo, Jeong Seo-Won, Lee Jae-Yoon, and Son Hyun-Hee.
