Happy Home

Happy Home (Korean: 가화만사성; RR: Gahwamansasung) is a South Korean television drama series that aired on the MBC network from February 27 to August 21, 2016. The series follows the lives of the Bong family, owners of a Chinese restaurant, and explores themes of family conflict, personal growth, and reconciliation.

Plot

The story centers on Bong Sam-Bong, an authoritarian patriarch who establishes a successful Chinese restaurant named Gahwamansasung. His daughter, Bong Hae-Ryung, appears to live an enviable life married to a successful man, but she struggles with the grief of losing her son in a car accident and faces emotional neglect from her husband and cruelty from her mother-in-law. Her life begins to shift when she encounters Seo Ji-Gun, a man who carries his own hidden burdens. Meanwhile, the family faces internal turmoil as other members navigate their own personal and professional challenges.

Production

The series was directed by Lee Dong-Yoon and written by Jo Eun-Jung. The production team, including the director and screenwriter, had previously collaborated on the 2012 MBC drama Feast of the Gods. The first script reading for Happy Home was held on January 17, 2016, at the MBC Dream Centre in Ilsan, South Korea. The series occupied the Saturday and Sunday 20:40 time slot on MBC, succeeding the drama Mom and preceding Blow Breeze.
