Halfway (Japanese: ハルフウェイ, Hepburn: Harufuwei) is a 2009 Japanese romantic drama film written and directed by Eriko Kitagawa. The film explores the emotional complexities of a young couple navigating the transition from high school to adulthood and the potential strain of geographic separation.

Plot

The story follows a high school couple whose relationship is tested when they face different paths regarding their future education. The protagonist, Hiro, plans to attend a local university, while her boyfriend, Shu, considers applying to a university in Tokyo. The narrative focuses on the tension caused by this impending choice, as Hiro struggles with the prospect of their separation and Shu evaluates his personal priorities.

Reception

The film was screened at the 13th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival in July 2009, where it received a Special Mention for the NETPAC Award.
