Gwigoong

Gwigoong (Korean: 귀궁), also known by its English title The Haunted Palace, is a South Korean television series that aired on SBS from April 18 to June 7, 2025. The drama was broadcast in the Friday and Saturday 22:00–23:10 time slot.

Plot

The story follows Yoon Gab (Yook Sung-Jae), a respected government official working within the royal palace. His life changes drastically when his body becomes possessed by an imoogi, a mythical creature. As he struggles with the possession, rumors spread that he has lost his sanity. The entity possessing him is linked to Yeo-Ri (Bona), a woman who was Yoon Gab's first love.

Yeo-Ri is the granddaughter of a renowned shaman and possesses a divine gift, though she rejects her destiny as a spirit medium, choosing instead to work as a glasses craftswoman. The imoogi seeks to use Yeo-Ri's body to ascend to Heaven, but she resists. As the situation escalates, Yeo-Ri enters the palace, which is haunted by vengeful female spirits harboring grudges against the royal family. Alongside King Lee Sung (Kim Ji-Hoon), a reformist monarch striving for a stronger Joseon, Yoon Gab and Yeo-Ri attempt to uncover the secrets behind these supernatural occurrences.

Production

The series was directed by Yun Seong-Sik with a screenplay written by Yoon Soo-Jung. It occupied the SBS Friday-Saturday 22:00 time slot, succeeding the drama Buried Hearts and preceding Our Movie, which premiered on June 13, 2025.
