Great Patrioteers (2016 Film)
Great Patrioteers (Korean: 우리 손자 베스트; RR: Woori Sonja Beseuteu) is a 2016 South Korean black comedy-drama film directed and written by Kim Soo-Hyun. The film explores the intersection of generational divides and political extremism in contemporary South Korea.
Plot
The narrative centers on two primary characters: Gyo-Hwan, an unemployed young man who spends his time active on a right-wing internet forum, and Jung-Soo, a man in his 70s who claims to have spent his life opposing leftist ideologies. The two characters meet by chance, leading to an unlikely bond rooted in their shared, fervent nationalist sentiments.
Production and Release
The film was produced by Choi In-Joon with cinematography by Jo Yong-Kyu. It premiered at the 2016 Jeonju International Film Festival and was also screened at the 42nd Seoul Independent Film Festival under the English title Great Patrioteers. The film received a general theatrical release in South Korea on December 8, 2016, distributed by Indie Plug.
