Background and Development
The drama is based on the 1983 comic book of the same name by Hwang Mi-Na, which was originally published by Songchun Cultural Publishers. The narrative of the comic is inspired by the classic French novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. The production was initially intended for broadcast on SBS, but negotiations were unsuccessful, leading to the series being picked up by MBC. The first script reading for the production occurred on January 9, 2016, at the MBC Broadcasting Station in Sangam, South Korea.
Plot Synopsis
The story follows Cha Ji-Won, a UDT officer in the Navy Special Operations Force. After suffering a betrayal by a close friend, he finds himself in a desperate, life-threatening situation. To conceal his identity while seeking justice and navigating his circumstances, he enters into a fake marriage with a woman named Swan. Through his relationship with the optimistic and bright-spirited Swan, Cha Ji-Won begins to heal, regains his ability to trust others, and eventually falls in love.
