Gokusen (2002 TV Series)

Gokusen is a Japanese television drama series that aired on NTV from April 2 to July 3, 2002. The series is based on the manga of the same name by Kozueko Morimoto. It follows the story of Kumiko Yamaguchi, a passionate and idealistic teacher who begins her career at the all-male Shirokin High School.
Plot
Kumiko Yamaguchi, an idealistic new teacher, is assigned to lead class 3-D, a group of students known for their delinquent behavior and lack of respect for authority. The class is led by Shin Sawada, a student surrounded by rumors regarding his past. Despite the students' persistent attempts to force her to quit, Yamaguchi remains committed to her role. Her secret identity, which she keeps hidden from the school, is that she is the fourth-generation heir to the Oedo group, a prominent yakuza clan. As the series progresses, her unique approach to teaching and her hidden background help her earn the respect of her students, who come to refer to her as "Yankumi."
Production and Cast
The series was directed by Toya Sato and Taro Otani, with a screenplay written by Michiru Egashira, Rie Yokota, and Yuko Matsuda. The cast includes Yukie Nakama as the protagonist Kumiko Yamaguchi, alongside Jun Matsumoto as Shin Sawada and Katsuhisa Namase as Goro Sawatari. The series spans 12 episodes and one special.
