Go Riju: Japanese Actor and Film Director

Go Riju (Japanese: 利重 剛; born July 31, 1962) is a Japanese actor and film director from Yokohama, Japan. Active in the Japanese entertainment industry for decades, Riju has built a prolific career spanning both feature films and television drama series, appearing in projects ranging from independent cinema to mainstream broadcast productions.

Acting Career

Riju made his presence known in Japanese cinema beginning in the early 1980s, establishing himself as a versatile supporting actor. Over his career, he has collaborated with numerous notable filmmakers and appeared in widely recognized works. His early credits include roles in films such as At This Late Date, the Charleston (1981) and Juzo Itami's classic comedy Death, Japanese Style (1984). He also portrayed a young Yukio Mishima in Paul Schrader's biographical film Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters (1985).

As his career progressed into the 1990s, 2000s, and subsequent decades, Riju maintained a steady output of television and movie appearances. Notable film credits include Shinji Aoyama's acclaimed drama Eureka (2000), Takashi Miike's Vital (2004), and Naomi Kawase's True Mothers (2020), alongside contemporary titles such as Great Absence (2024). In television, he has appeared in numerous major network and streaming series, including Naoki Hanzawa (2013), Silent (2022), Gannibal (2022–2025), and Where does the Sea Begin (2024).
