Gintama (2017 Film)
Gintama is a 2017 Japanese live-action film directed by Yuichi Fukuda, based on the long-running manga series of the same name by Hideaki Sorachi. The film, which was distributed by Warner Bros. Japan, premiered on July 14, 2017, and has a runtime of 130 minutes.

Plot
The story takes place in a parallel universe version of Japan's Edo period. Following an invasion by alien species known as the Amanto, the people of Earth engaged in a decade-long conflict. Ultimately, the Shogunate surrendered to the alien forces, establishing a puppet government that serves the Amanto. As part of this new order, a Sword Abolishment Edict was enacted, leading to the decline of the samurai class. The narrative follows Gintoki Sakata, a samurai who navigates this changing world.
Production
The film is an adaptation of the manga series originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump starting in 2003. Principal photography for the live-action project commenced in July 2016. The production featured a large ensemble cast, with character visuals released leading up to the film's debut to showcase the faithful recreation of the manga's aesthetic.
