Forbidden Dream (2019 Film)

Forbidden Dream (Korean: 천문: 하늘에 묻는다; RR: Cheonmun: Haneule Mudneunda) is a 2019 South Korean historical drama film directed by Hur Jin-ho. The narrative explores the historical relationship between King Sejong the Great and the renowned inventor Jang Yeong-sil during the 15th century.

Plot

The film depicts the long-standing collaboration between King Sejong (portrayed by Han Suk-kyu) and Jang Yeong-sil (portrayed by Choi Min-sik). Over the course of two decades, the two men work together to develop various astronomical instruments and scientific devices. The plot centers on the political and personal challenges they face, culminating in a crisis that leads to Jang Yeong-sil's sudden disappearance from public life.

Production

The film was directed by Hur Jin-ho. Principal photography commenced on October 2, 2018, and concluded on January 23, 2019. The project is notable for reuniting lead actors Choi Min-sik and Han Suk-kyu, who had previously starred together in the 1999 film Shiri.
