Duty After School

Duty After School (Korean: 방과 후 전쟁활동; RR: Banggwa Hoo Jeonjaenghwaldong) is a South Korean television series that premiered in 2023 on the streaming platform TVING. The series is based on the webcomic of the same name by author Ha Il-Kwon, which was originally serialized on Naver between 2012 and 2013.

Premise

The narrative centers on the students of Sungjin High School's 3rd grade, 2nd class. While they are expected to focus on their university entrance examinations, the sudden appearance of mysterious alien creatures in the sky forces the government to mobilize high school and university students into reserve military forces. The students are subsequently trained for combat by Platoon Leader Lee Choon-Ho and Sergeant Kim Won-Bin, while their homeroom teacher, Park Eun-Young, attempts to prioritize their safety amidst the escalating crisis.

Production and Release

Directed by Sung Yong-Il and written by Yoon Soo, the series was released in two parts in 2023. It explores themes of survival, the loss of innocence, and the pressure of academic expectations juxtaposed against a global existential threat.
