Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman
Dr. Cheon and the Lost Talisman (Korean: 천박사 퇴마 연구소: 설경의 비밀) is a 2023 South Korean fantasy film directed by Kim Sung-sik. The film is based on the webcomic Bingui, written by Huretsha and illustrated by Kim Hong-Tae, which was serialized on Naver from August to December 2014.
Plot
The story follows Dr. Cheon, played by Gang Dong-won, who operates a YouTube channel dedicated to exorcism alongside his partner, In-Bae. Skeptical of the supernatural, Dr. Cheon performs staged exorcisms, believing he is merely treating the psychological state of his clients. His perspective is challenged when he is approached by a new client, Yoo-Kyung, who seeks his help to save her younger sister from a genuine possession.
Production
The film was produced by Kim Hyun-Sik and Oh Hyeong-Kyun, with cinematography by Yang Hyun-Seok. Principal photography commenced on September 14, 2022. During its development, the project was known by the working title Bingui, which translates to "Possession." The film was distributed by CJ Entertainment and released in South Korea on September 27, 2023, with a runtime of 98 minutes.
