Dinner Mate

Dinner Mate (Korean: 저녁 같이 드실래요; RR: Jeonyeok Kati Deusilraeyo) is a South Korean television series that aired on MBC from May 25 to July 14, 2020. The drama consists of 32 episodes, broadcast on Monday and Tuesday evenings. It is based on the webcomic Jeonyeok Kati Deusilraeyo? by Park Shi-in, which was serialized on Daum Webtoon from November 2013 to December 2014.

Plot

The story follows Kim Hae-kyung (Song Seung-heon), a successful psychiatrist who uses food as a therapeutic tool during his sessions. Despite his professional success, he struggles with his personal life due to past heartbreaks. Woo Do-hee (Seo Ji-hye) is a media content producer who experiences a painful breakup while on a trip to Jeju Island. By chance, she meets Kim Hae-kyung during their flight to Jeju, and the two decide to share a meal. Upon returning to Seoul, they encounter each other again and agree to become "dinner mates," meeting regularly to eat together without revealing their personal identities, eventually developing a complex relationship.

Production

The series was directed by Ko Jae-hyun. The screenplay was written by Kim Joo. The drama occupied the Monday and Tuesday 21:00 time slot on MBC, succeeding 365: Repeat The Year and preceding Kairos. The lead female role was initially offered to Shin Min-a, who declined the part.
