Devils (Korean: 악마들; RR: Akmadeul) is a 2023 South Korean crime thriller film written and directed by Kim Jae-Hoon. The film explores a high-stakes conflict involving a serial killer and a detective whose lives become inextricably linked through a supernatural body-swap event.
Plot
The narrative follows the pursuit of a serial murderer named Jin-Hyeok (played by Jang Dong-Yoon) by a team of detectives, including Jae-Hwan (played by Oh Dae-Hwan). During the investigation, a close colleague of Jae-Hwan is killed by the suspect. In the ensuing confrontation, Jae-Hwan and Jin-Hyeok engage in a violent struggle. Following the incident, Jae-Hwan wakes up in a hospital to discover that his consciousness has been transferred into the body of the serial killer, while Jin-Hyeok has taken control of his own body. With his family held hostage by the antagonist, Jae-Hwan must navigate this forced role reversal to stop the killer.
Production
The film was directed and written by Kim Jae-Hoon, with production managed by Son Jung-Hyun. Principal photography for the project commenced on March 28, 2022, and concluded on May 18, 2022. The film was distributed by The Contents On and received its theatrical release in South Korea on July 5, 2023.
