Deranged (2012 Film)
Deranged (Korean: 연가시; RR: Yeongashi) is a 2012 South Korean disaster film written and directed by Park Jung-woo. The film centers on a national health crisis triggered by a mutant strain of hairworm (Nematomorpha) that manipulates its human hosts into drowning themselves.

Plot
The story follows Jae-Hyuk, a former medical researcher turned pharmaceutical salesman, whose family begins exhibiting the symptoms of a deadly, water-borne parasite. As the country descends into chaos and the government declares a state of emergency, Jae-Hyuk works with his brother, a detective named Jae-Pil, to uncover the source of the outbreak and secure an antidote.
Production
Principal photography for Deranged commenced on November 13, 2011. The film was produced by Kim Sang-Oh, Oh Sung-Il, Baek Kyung-Sook, and Kang Moon-Hwan, with cinematography by Ki Se-Hoon.




Reception
Upon its release on July 5, 2012, the film achieved significant commercial success in South Korea. It opened at number one at the domestic box office, selling 1.13 million tickets during its opening weekend (July 6–8), accounting for 39.20% of all tickets sold. The film maintained the top position during its second weekend (July 13–15), selling 1.15 million tickets and reaching a total of over 3 million ticket sales by that time.
Awards
The film received recognition at major South Korean film ceremonies. Moon Jeong-Hee won the Best Supporting Actress award at the 33rd Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2012. Additionally, Kim Dong-Wan was recognized as the Most Popular Actor at the 49th Baeksang Arts Awards in 2013.
