Defendant (2017 South Korean Television Series)

Defendant (Korean: 피고인; RR: Pigoin) is a South Korean television series that aired on SBS from January 23 to March 21, 2017. The legal thriller, directed by Jo Young-Gwang and written by Choi Soo-Jin, follows the story of a prosecutor who finds himself on death row with temporary amnesia.

Plot

Park Jung-Woo is a dedicated prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. His life takes a drastic turn when he wakes up in a prison cell, having been sentenced to death. Suffering from temporary amnesia, he has no memory of the events that led to his incarceration. The series documents his struggle to reclaim his memories and prove his innocence against powerful adversaries.

Production

The series was broadcast in the Monday and Tuesday 22:00 time slot on SBS, succeeding Dr. Romantic. It was subsequently replaced by the drama Whisper on March 27, 2017. The first script reading for the production was held on November 18, 2016, at the SBS Studio in Tanhyun, Ilsan, South Korea.

Actor Uhm Ki-Joon — Uhm Ki-Joon, who plays the dual roles of Cha Min-Ho and Cha Sun-Ho.
