Decibel (2022 Film)

Decibel is a South Korean action thriller film released in 2022. Directed by Hwang In-ho, the film follows a former navy commander who becomes the target of a terrorist plot involving specialized explosives that detonate based on ambient noise levels.

Plot

The narrative centers on Kang Do-young, a former navy commander who receives a series of threatening phone calls from an anonymous individual. The caller claims to have planted multiple "sound bombs" in crowded public areas, such as a soccer stadium and a water park. These devices are designed to detonate if the surrounding ambient noise exceeds 100 decibels. Kang must race against time to locate the devices and prevent mass casualties while uncovering the motive behind the attacks.

Production

The film was directed by Hwang In-ho, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Lee Jin-hun. Principal photography for the project commenced on April 20, 2021, and concluded in August 2021. The film was distributed by Megabox Plus M.
