Production and Development
The production of Dear. M faced several challenges during its development. The first script reading for the series took place on October 14, 2020, and filming commenced later that same month. During the early stages of casting, actress Kim Sae-Ron was originally attached to the project but departed following a disagreement with the production company, Playlist, regarding lead actress billing.
Following the completion of filming, the scheduled broadcast of the series was postponed indefinitely due to public controversy involving allegations of school bullying directed at lead actress Park Hye-Soo. These allegations surfaced regarding her behavior during her middle school, high school, and college years.
