Dear Dolphin (2013 Film)

Dear Dolphin (Korean: 환상속의 그대; RR: Hwansangsokui Geudae) is a 2013 South Korean romance film directed by Kang Jin-A. The film premiered at the 14th Jeonju International Film Festival on April 27, 2013, and was released theatrically in South Korea on May 16, 2013.

Plot

The story follows the aftermath of a tragic accident involving Cha-Kyung (Han Ye-Ri), who dies after borrowing a bicycle from her roommate and best friend, Ki-Ok (Rie Young-Zin). The loss deeply affects both Ki-Ok and Cha-Kyung's partner, Hyuk-Geun (Lee Hee-Jun).

One year later, Hyuk-Geun continues to struggle with the grief of losing his partner. Meanwhile, Ki-Ok, who had harbored secret feelings for Hyuk-Geun while maintaining her loyalty to Cha-Kyung, attempts to reach out to him. The film examines the emotional complexities of the characters as they navigate memory and the difficulty of moving forward.

Production and Release

Directed by Kang Jin-A, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Choi Young-Rin, the film was produced by Je Jung-Joo with cinematography by Kim Jong-Sun. It was distributed by KT&G Sangsangmadang. Following its world premiere at the Jeonju International Film Festival, the film was also screened at the 8th Korean Film Festival in Paris in late 2013.
