Dark Hole (South Korean Television Series)

Dark Hole is a South Korean science fiction thriller television series that premiered in 2021. The series, which aired for 12 episodes, was broadcast on the sister networks OCN and tvN. It explores themes of survival and mystery as a small city faces a supernatural catastrophe.

Plot

The story centers on Lee Hwa-Sun, a detective from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's regional investigation unit. After receiving a call from the person who murdered her husband, she travels to Muji City. Upon her arrival, she discovers that the city is being consumed by a mysterious dark smoke that transforms those who inhale it into monstrous beings. In Muji City, she encounters Yoo Tae-Han, a former detective who now works as a wrecker driver. Despite his past, he retains a strong sense of justice. Together, they work to protect the remaining residents from the chaos while Hwa-Sun continues her search for her husband's killer.

Production and Broadcast

The series was directed by Kim Bong-Joo and written by Jung Yi-Do. It aired from April 30 to June 5, 2021, in the Friday and Saturday 22:50 time slot. The production marked a notable return to the Friday-Saturday programming format for OCN, which had not utilized this schedule for its drama series since Squad 38 in 2016.

Cast

The main cast features Kim Ok-Vin as Lee Hwa-Sun and Lee Jun-Hyuk as Yoo Tae-Han. The series also features a cameo appearance by actress Ahn Eun-Jin, who reprises her role as So Jung-Hwa, a character she previously portrayed in the 2019 OCN series Strangers From Hell.
