Dae Jo-yeong (Hangul: 대조영) is a South Korean historical television drama that aired on KBS1 from September 16, 2006, to December 23, 2007. Spanning 100 episodes, the series depicts the life of Dae Jo-yeong, the historical figure who founded the Balhae Kingdom. The narrative explores the political and military struggles of the era, focusing on the transition following the fall of the Goguryeo Kingdom and the subsequent rise of Balhae.

Plot and Production
The series follows the protagonist, Dae Jo-yeong, portrayed by actor Choi Soo-jong, as he navigates conflicts with the Tang Dynasty and rival factions. A central conflict involves his rivalry with Yi Hae-go, played by Jung Bo-suk, over both territorial supremacy and personal relationships, including the character Cho-rin, played by Park Ye-jin. The drama also features historical figures such as King Bojang, played by Kil Yong-woo.
The production was noted for its use of visual effects to recreate large-scale historical events. This included the use of 3D digital characters to depict siege warfare between Goguryeo and the Tang Dynasty, as well as the dramatization of the collapse of a mountain during the Battle of Ansi Fortress.
