Cuckoo Nest

Cuckoo Nest (Korean: 뻐꾸기 둥지; RR: Bbeoggoogi Doongji) is a South Korean television drama series that aired on KBS2 from June 3 to November 7, 2014. The series, directed by Kwak Ki-Won and written by Hwang Soon-Young, consists of 102 episodes and was broadcast in the Monday-Friday 19:50-20:30 time slot.

Plot Synopsis

The narrative follows Baek Yeon-Hee (Jang Seo-Hee), who faces a medical crisis after being diagnosed with uterine cancer on her wedding day. Following surgery that leaves her unable to conceive, she and her family pursue surrogacy to have a child. The situation becomes complicated when the surrogate mother, Lee Hwa-Young (Lee Chae-Young), harbors a secret agenda. Hwa-Young, who blames Yeon-Hee for the death of her older brother and was previously involved with Yeon-Hee's husband, Jung Byeong-Kook (Hwang Dong-Joo), intends to use the surrogacy as a means to exact revenge and eventually take the child away.

Production

The drama was produced for the KBS2 network. Initial script readings were conducted on April 29 and May 7, 2014, at the KBS Annex Building in Seoul. The series occupied the time slot previously held by Angel's Revenge and was succeeded by Love & Secret on November 10, 2014. Actor Kim Da-Hyun was initially considered for a lead male role but declined due to scheduling conflicts.
